Tip: Top 10 Tips for Maintaining a Health Weight

alt

It’s all about BALANCE! Here are some great tips for getting (and staying) healthier and fitter…

  1. Choose good quality food – the best you can afford, and savour every mouthful.
  2. Have a small treat each day. If you are eating healthy and being too strict, it is easy to feel deprived, which can result in failure and going back to old habits.
  3. Plan your workouts each week. Know your excuses e.g. too tired, too cold etc and ignore them when they pop into your head.
  4. Change the way you think. Eat healthy because you want to nourish your body with nutrients rather than because you’re ‘on a diet’.
  5. Make small changes over time. When these changes become habits, introduce some more changes. Eventually, you will have made many little changes which make a big difference.
  6. A diet too low in calories can actually stimulate appetite. Give yourself a day off each week.
  7. Eat a salad each day, whether it’s at lunch or dinner – they are easier to make and don’t take as long to prepare as you think! Include some protein for satiety.
  8. Include a handful of nuts as a mid-afternoon snack.
  9. Drink at least 1.5 – 2L water each day
  10. Consider seeing a dietitian as a first resort rather than a last resort – as tempting as the ‘quick-fix’ diets are, they aren’t sustainable long term and aren’t usually healthy either. Dietitians are nutrition professionals and know their stuff! We will support you to make positive dietary and lifestyle changes for the long term that actually aren’t as challenging or depriving as you may think!
